Full Description
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F18).
This survey identified little of potential archaeological interest. Although a north-north-west to south-south-east aligned linear anomaly in the eastern half of the site is likely to represent an infilled ditch this corresponds with a former field boundary shown on the Dillington tithe map (S1). There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a series of probable post-medieval field boundaries visible as low earthworks subsequently noted on visualised lidar data of this location (NHER 66917).
Various small discrete anomalies are thought to be the result of variations in the underlying geology, while areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field and scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F285; Trenches 171, 402 and 433).
The trenches excavated at this location revealed three ditches, none of which produced any dating evidence. Two adjacent north-north-west to south-south-east aligned features did though coincide with the line of a former field boundary shown on the Dillington tithe map (S1). The third ditch was a roughly east-to-west aligned feature that appears to have continued the line of one of the low earthworks subsequently noted on visualised lidar data of this location and thought to potentially represent former post-medieval field boundaries (NHER 66917).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
