Summary

Geophysical surveys of this site completed between 2017 and 2021 revealed little of potential archaeological interest. The one response of note was an 'L'-shaped linear anomaly that may represent an infilled field boundary or enclosure ditch. Its nature remains uncertain as it was not subject to further investigation during limiting trial trenching that took place in 2020/2021. The single trench excavated at the southern end of the site revealed no archaeologically-significant remains.

Map

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Areas F14 and F15).
This survey of the central and northern parts of the site identified nothing of definite archaeological interest. The most notable response is an 'L'-shaped linear anomaly that may represent part of an infilled field boundary or enclosure ditch.
Numerous small discrete anomalies are thought to be the result of variations in the underlying geology, while areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field and scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 22 May 2026.

May 2020-January 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F291).
This survey of the southernmost part of the site identified nothing of potential archaeological interest. Although two linear responses were recorded these are both regarded as being the result of recent agricultural activity.
Various discrete and amorphous anomalies are thought to be the result of variations in the underlying geology, while scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 22 May 2026.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F291; Trench 299).
A single trench excavated in the southernmost part of the site revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 May 2026.
