Full Description
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F10).
This survey identified little of potential archaeological interest. Although a series of extensive, interconnecting north-east to south-west and north-west to south-east aligned linear anomalies are likely to represent infilled ditches, these all correspond with former field boundaries depicted on the West Bradenham tithe map (S1). Two large discrete areas of magnetic disturbance in the northernmost part of the site correspond with ponds or water-filled former quarry pits marked on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S2).
The majority of the small discrete anomalies recorded are probably natural in origin, while scattered discrete dipolar 'spikes' and areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface - most likely modern debris.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with earthworks visible on aerial photographs at the northern end of the field (part of a extensive group of features recorded as NHER 68546 and thought to represent enclosures and drainage ditches of medieval to post-medieval date).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F321; Trench 173).
The single trench excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically-significant features.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
