NHER 66079 (Monument record) - Late post-medieval and undated ditches and site of 19th-century dwelling

Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F310).
This survey identified little of potential archaeological interest. Although two linear anomalies are likely to represent infilled ditches, both appear to correspond with former field boundaries shown on the Scarning Tithe map (S1). A particularly large area of magnetic disturbance at TF 9434 1226 coincides with the site of house and its associated garden plot shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S1). The house is not shown on the Scarning tithe map of 1847 (S2), so it must have been erected at some point during the latter half of the 19th century. It was demolished during the second half of the 20th century. A large area of magnetic disturbance to the west correspond with a large water-filled probable former quarry shown on (S1).
The majority of the smaller discrete anomalies recorded are probably natural in origin, while scattered discrete dipolar 'spikes' and more amorphous areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface - most likely modern debris.

Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F310; Trenches 391 and 392).
The westernmost of the two trenches exposed two ditches, one of which was a roughly north-to-south aligned feature that had been identified by the preceding geophysical survey and corresponds within a former field boundary shown on the Scarning tithe map (S1). The second ditch was aligned more north-north-west to south-south-east. Neither produced any dating evidence.
The easternmost trench was positioned to coincide with the building plot shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S2) but revealed nothing of potential archaeological interest.
