Full Description
April 2025. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey revealed nothing of definite archaeological interest. The most distinct response is an east-north-east to west-south-west aligned linear anomaly likely to represent an infilled ditch. This is though associated with a late post-medieval field boundary that appears on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S1) , but not the earlier Walpole Tithe map. A number of other, more fragmentary but relatively straight linear anomalies may represent ditches associated with earlier field boundaries. Several adjoining, much more curvilinear linear responses are probably associated with infilled palaeochannels.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
