Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2024 recorded little of potential archaeological interest. Although a number of linear anomalies were identified the majority correspond with former field boundaries shown on a 19th-century map, with only one potentially representing an element of an earlier field system.

Map

October 2024. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development area (LP_024).
This survey recorded little of potential archaeological interest. Although a number of linear anomalies likely to represent infilled ditches were identified the majority correspond with former field boundaries depicted on the West Walton Tithe map (S1). The one exception is an 'L'-shaped anomaly at the eastern edge of the field that may represent ditches associated with an earlier field system.
The entire site is covered by a network of sinuous linear anomalies likely to represent infilled palaeochannels - reflecting the former presence of tidal flats at this location.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
