Full Description
April 2024-April 2025. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site within footprint of proposed East Pye solar farm (NG Substation).
This survey of a block in the central part of the site recorded three linear anomalies, including a north-to-south aligned response that clearly corresponds with a former field boundary shown on the Tivetshall St Margaret Tithe map. Two north-east to south-west aligned anomalies may represent earlier features, although these responses are weak and regarded as being of undetermined origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 8 August 2026.
September-October 2024. Aerial Imagery Interpretation.
Examination of available aerial photographs and airborne laser scanning (lidar) data for site within footprint of proposed East Pye solar farm (Areas 2 and 83).
Nothing of potential archaeological or historical interest was noted at this location.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

January 2025. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of site of proposed solar farm (Area 2).
This survey identified nothing of definite archaeological interest. Although a number of extensive linear anomalies are likely to represent infilled ditches these all correspond with former field boundaries shown on the Tivetshall St Margaret Tithe map. These are mostly very straight north-to-south and east-to-west aligned features that almost certainly represent 19th-century enclosure boundaries. An adjoining pair of more sinuous north-east to south-west and north-west to south-east aligned boundaries at the eastern edge of the site are notable exceptions and likely represented the fossilised remnants of an earlier field system.
A number of other, more fragmentary linear anomalies may also represent earlier features, although these are all regarded as being of undetermined origin, as are two groups of discrete anomalies that could represent pit-type features. Several large discrete areas of magnetic disturbance correspond with the site of former ponds shown on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S1).
Scattered dipolar 'spikes' and areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
See report (S2) for further details.

February 2025. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of potential impact of proposed solar farm.
