Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2017 identified little of potential interest, the only response of note being a linear anomaly that relates to a former field boundary shown on 19th-century maps.

Map

October 2017. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified little of potential interest. Although a north-north-west to south-south-east aligned linear anomaly is likely to represent an infilled ditch this corresponds with a former field boundary shown on the Stoke Holy Cross Tithe map (S1). A number of similarly aligned linear anomalies were caused by modern ploughing while other, more amorphous anomalies were likely natural in origin. Areas of magnetic disturbance around the margins of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a group of fragmentary linear cropmarks visible on aerial photograph in the western half of the site (part of a group of undated probable field boundaries and enclosures recorded as NHER 53231).
See report (S2) for further details.

December 2017. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of potential archaeological impact of proposed development.
A walkover survey undertaken as part of this study identified nothing of potential archaeological or historical interest.
See report (S3) for further details.
