Map

September 2016. Trial Trench.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The two trenches excavated revealed an east-north-east to west-south-west aligned ditch and two post-holes.
Two medieval pottery sherds were recovered from the ditch but these were most likely residual as this feature clearly corresponds with a former field boundary shown on the Caistor St Edmund Tithe map (S1).
The two adjacent post-holes to the south produced no dating evidence but were probably modern. It was suggested they had potentially related to pheasant pens present at this location around the mid 20th century.
See report (S2) for further details.
