January 1993. Detector find.
Early Saxon discoidal mount made from Roman coin (1st/2nd century as). Two triangular areas on reverse where surface has been cut away to solder on attachment fittings. Obverse has border with double contour line. Inside, a sunken circular field containing chip-carved ornament, gilded. Ornament consists of three concentric circles around a central boss with a punched dot in the centre. Around it four leaf-shaped motifs which cross the three circles.
