Summary

A series of earthwork banks and ditches of an unknown, probable post medieval date, have been recorded from field visits and are visible on aerial photographs and visualised data. A hollow way that is marked on Faden's map of 1797 as running next to the common can be seen as a shallow depression.

Map

February 1993. Site visited in NLA earthworks survey fieldwork.
Hollow way extending south from farm buildings, for approximately 200m (it may be coincident with old watercourse) 0.3m deep and banked in part on both sides. Higher level to west than to east. Appears to correspond to common edge roadway shown on Fadens map. Therefore all features (drains etc) to west would seem to be post 1789. Enclosure
bank in lawn in front of house with possible earlier drive as bank to north.
B.Cushion (NLA) 12 February 1993.

March 2023. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A series of earthwork banks and ditches (see above) of an unknown, but probable post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs and recent (2017) visualised data (S1-S2). The majority of the features most likely relate to post medieval to modern drainage ditches and therefore have not been mapped by the project. However, the possibility that some of the features may relate to post medieval boundaries cannot be ruled out.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 31 March 2023.
