NHER 32947 (Monument record) - Probable medieval building

Field west of castle.
Many years before 1997. Parch marks resembling buildings appear in the field during dry weather.
During ploughing an obstruction caused the tractor to come to a halt.
It was proposed to be excavated but marker pegs were removed.

One brick, almost complete. Mould made sanded surfaces. 145 by 59 by 34mm. Late medieval/early post medieval.

Fifteen early post medieval/post medieval fragments of tile/pottery/clay pipe.

Small ?flooring brick, minimum 125mm by 65mm by 33mm, hard yellowish fabric, possibly Flemish. Post medieval.

February-March 2017. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on possible route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (GS02).
This location was part of one of 26 sites identified as a priority for examination due to their archaeological potential.
The entire field was almost entirely covered by magnetic debris, with no archaeologically-significant responses identified. It is suggested that this debris was potentially the result of manuring with modern 'green fertiliser', although it was may also reflect the presence of the previously noted building material.

Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
