Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Stretch of earthwork bank, visible on Hunting Survey photographs from 1969 (S1), running from TF 8448 4480 to TF 8449 4494, 137m long and 7.5m wide. It is likely to be part of the post-medieval sea defences and embankment of the salt marshes. The plan of the Burnham salt marshes produced in 1822 (S2), does indicate a linear in this location, although it looks quite dilapidated and appears in places to be crossed by creeks and channels. It may be that this bank is quite early in the marsh improvement schemes or that it was ineffective.
S. Massey (NMP), 3 October 2002.
