NHER 27254 (Monument record) - World War Two bomb craters north of Hickling Priory

A linear group of World War Two bomb craters is visible within an area of grazing to the north of Hickling Priory on aerial photographs from 1943 to 1946 (S1) and (S2). The site is centred on TG 4132 2531. There are ten craters, forming two clusters of pits. It is not clear whether these craters are the result of home bomber training on the marshes or from enemy fire, although there is no obvious military site visible. There is also no evidence for a decoy site nearby visible on the aerial photographs. The southern cluster of craters are still extant as earthworks.
