Summary

A moated enclosure exists here, with parts still filled with water. Documentary research shows it may be the site of Parkes Manor House. Finds from the site include medieval and post medieval pottery sherds, prehistoric flint flakes and a possible core along with a few pieces of building debris.

NAR Records give fuller description of moat than appears on NHER: moat is described as much stronger than others in surrounding area. Also modern alterations to southeast arm. Interior ploughed and light scatter of building debris visible.

April 2000. Visit.
Northeast arm of moat waterfilled, with slight return to southwest, it is boggy (with good flora including marsh marigolds). Southwest arm berry shaped and dry. Northwest arm wet fringed with old coppiced trees. Depth of moat ranges from approximately 2-5m, width approximate 2-3m. Interior platform some 60m square, planted with 15-20 old deciduous trees, some area of scrub, old plough furrows still visible. Severe disturbance of northeast bank by fox earths.
