Summary

In 1971 and 1987 a variety of objects were retrieved from the site of the old cottage that once stood here. Finds included a post medieval witch bottle, post medieval inkwells and bootblacking bottles along with a Roman ferrule and part of a post medieval bronze latch.

Stoneware witch bottle without mask found on site of old cottage, shown on 1838 1st edition 1in OS but not on 2nd edition 6in.
Walls of clay lump and flint found.
Other bottles which contained nine bronze pins and a nail, all bent, fragments of iron nails; the tops of these bottles were sealed with clay. Also a groat, a jetton, 19th century inkwells and bootblacking bottles. Also a stone plaque, 23 x 30cm (9 x 12in) inscribed 11 T E APRIL 1691 (probably; but might be 1601).
