Summary

This is the site of Brooke Hall, a large house built in the early 19th century, which was demolished in 1949, after bomb damage in World War Two. Brooke Hall was the birthplace of Sir Astley Cooper, who was Queen Victoria's surgeon.

House of 1820, in Grecian style, see photographs in (S1).
Said to stand on site of medieval manor house but this may be a confusion with NHER 10158.
Occupied by the army during World War Two when it was damaged by a V2, fragments in Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum.
Demolished 1949.
Site now grown over with bushes but foundations, steps, and cellars said to be hidden underneath.
Coach house of yellow brick with pedimented projecting central bay, 2 storeys, probably later than hall.
Poultry farm now around site.
Visited E. Rose (NAU), 28 September 1978.

Brooke Hall was the birthplace, and home of Sir Astley Cooper, who was the most popular physician in London in the early 19th century, and who was the Sergeant Surgeon to George IV, William IV and Queen Victoria.
