NHER 10308 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Bronze Age round barrow earthwork

One of several barrows on White Heath opened by Rev. C. R. Manning and Rev. Dr. Beal.
(Barrow at NHER 10312 had been opened about 1830 by Mr. Utting, was this one as well?)
Manning found Bronze Age inverted Collared Urn of reddish brown colour protected by a large mass of rough stones at depth of nearly 1.2m (4 feet). Height 4.4m (14.5 feet), diameter at lip 3.3m (11 feet), ornamented with horizontal lines with diagonal lines between; contained burnt bone.
It is now though that a Collared Urn recorded as being from Frenze that the Norwich Castle Museum acquired in 1962 (NWHCM : 1962.580; transferred from Ipswich Museum) is actually the vessel that had been found by Manning at this site - see NHER 10985 for further details.

NCM card adds 'Stone celt in BM' but no celt of this provenance could be found there in 1974 by E. Rose (NAU).

(S1) refers to a 'small earthwork in Berghapton' which may refer to this site, or to NHER 11914.

June 2007. Norfolk NMP
An earthwork and cropmark of a Bronze Age round barrow is visible on aerial photographs (S5-S7). The central grid reference for this cropmark has been amended from TG 3226 0093 to TG 3225 0092. A slight earthwork of a sub-circular mound and a corresponding negative cropmark are present. The mound has a diameter of 20m. The surrounding ditch, which is up to 6m wide, is also visible as a shallow earthwork and cropmark. The earthwork and cropmark relate to a round barrow of Bronze Age date. It forms part of a barrow cemetery (NHER 49491) located on White Heath.
