April-August 2007. Watching Brief.
A drainage system spanning either side of this site was identified during Broadland Flood Alleviation Project works on the north bank of the River Yare. The system was comprised of a pipe running along the toe of the river bank, and a series of ten drains running from the pipe to an existing dyke. Excavation of one of these drains revealed a stepped, red brick facing at the junction of the drain and the dyke. No dates were initially suggested for these features, but they are
believed to be associated with the 19th century steam engine recorded under this number or the modern drainage pump occupying the same location.
These features have been recorded under NHER 50300.
See report (S3) and NHER 50300 for further details.
H. Hamilton (HES), 18 March 2015.
