Summary

A barrow of probable Bronze Age date is located on Mill Hill, Belton Common. An early Saxon date has also been suggested for this barrow. The name of Mill Hill may also indicate that the mound has been used for a base of a post mill.

Schedule suggests from 'shape and position' that this is an Early Saxon burial mound, later used as a windmill mound.
Confirmed Monument Protection Programme scheduling no longer records this as a Saxon site.

Thick gorse covering except to south. No evidence of rabbit burrowing, but it is difficult to establish under gorse cover.

A mound, slightly oval and measuring approximately 11m by 14m, is visible on aerial photographs on Mill Hill, Belton Common (S2). The site is centred on TG 4780 0187. The cropmarks of a possible small ring ditch have also been recorded 200m to the northwest (NHER 43604), possibly associated with a Neolithic long barrow or mortuary enclosure.
