Full Description
House, two storey, timber framed, jettied.
Upper windows original, lower ones cut through - one long narrow window blocked. Wooden lintel with spandrels.
South gable wall of brick, old at bottom, newer at top. To north an extension in brick, with hoodmould over window which has been reduced in size. End wall here also renewed. Behind, a barn with arch-braced roof with tie beams.
House 16th century with 17th century extension?
Visited by E. Rose (NAU), 29 May 1976.
Architectural plans (S1) in file.
2006.
Detailed examination shows this is probably a 16th century jettied two cell cross-passage building with firegable, extended to north by a brick parlour block in the 17th century. Much altered to convert it to a public house in 19th century and gutted in mid 20th century.
One fragment of ecclesiastical limestone is probably a chance reuse in the 19th century.
(S2) in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 4 May 2006.
