Summary

An iron milestone of 1831, consisting of a Gothic traceried shaft with a castellated top, above a base embossed with place names and their distances. It was fully restored in 1993.

'Raveningham' has 'III' (! Yards?).
Very rusty, with many letters missing; very bad condition.

Listing Description:
Milestone, dated 1831, by J.T. Patience, architect. Cast iron column of two stages on gault brick and limestone base; conical cast iron roof concealed by castellated parapet. Octagonal on plan. Each face of column has two tall recessed Gothick panels with cusped and crocketted gables. Applied lettering mostly lost at time of survey, but the north-east face has the letters RAVENINGHAM and on the NNW face 4½. TO 111

1994.
10 feet high, cast-iron, fluted, cylindrical column, set on a brick plinth with a slate plaque at the base stating it was erected in 1831 and restored in 1986. Near the base, bronze plaques bear the mileage "RAVENINGHAM/TO/LONDON/112 MILES" and to either side of this plaque are two plaques, each bearing the family coat of arms of a boar with fleur-de-lis.
