Summary

During the first half of the 20th century undated human skeletal remains were unearthed in one of the plantations at this location. Although the exact location of these remains wasn't recorded they were most likely associated with burials within the medieval churchyard of St Mary's Church (NHER 10823) or that of an earlier church.

Although several metal-detecting finds were previously detailed under this record the recorded grid references suggest that all were actually found elsewhere. These objects are therefore now recorded elsewhere (a coin found in 1993 under NHER 68320; a medieval harness pendant found in 1999 under NHER 29447 and a second harness pendant found in 2000 under NHER 30362). This record had also been erroneously associated with reports of ploughed up building debris that potentially suggested an alternative location for the Bishop's Palace recorded as NHER 10794. It appears that this material had actually been uncovered in the field to the north-east (NHER 29447, in vicinity of earthworks recorded as NHER 57386).
