NHER 10944 (Monument record) - Medieval moat

Winter 1983 to 1984.
In interior of moated site, shown as rectangular on (S1). Found on surface of ploughed field.
Four sherds of medieval unglazed pottery and one sherd of glazed red earthenware.
Site is still visible but ploughed.
Known locally as Chenery's moat.
The name Chenery appears in the Diss 1865 terrier which names three brothers of that surname occupying land belonging to the Rectory and Parish of Diss.

After visit by Ordnance Survey moats described as dry with only an L shaped fragment surviving, northern and western ditches surviving only as field ditches.

Site barely discernible.
South and east sides seen as an imperceptible drop of maximum 20cm in ploughsoil.
