Map

Moat marked by Ordnance Survey map as having an east and north side.

Not marked on tithe map of 1840, though a house within it is.
E. Rose (NAU), 18 January 1980.

6 February 1980. Visit.
Northeast corner gives the most convincing impression of the feature being a moat.
It is waterfilled and the interior is well raised up.
The east side tapers out to south, and the north side is in good condition. West side is only a field ditch.
Interior overgrown with brambles.
Farmer at Grove Farm did not know of its existence though he is the landowner.
E. Rose (NAU).

Measures approximately 55m east to west; 94m north to south; 2 to 3m wide (maximum). Southeast corner broadens into pond like feature. Ditches water filled. Old bird pen situated on interior, which is masked by scrub and old trees, many of which are dead.
H.Paterson (NLA) 11 July 1997.

15 October 2003. Visit.
Mrs Cullum told H. Paterson (A&E) that in 1960 the only earthwork on the site was a small ditch to North. The remainder of the moated area had been constructed by her husband. Previously the area had been wood pasture grazed by cattle/horses. Although legend speaks of a moat here in antiquity, nothing was seen in 1960 and no moat is show on (S1).
H. Paterson (A&E). 15 October 2003.
