Summary

This is the site of a medieval moat that is marked on the Burston tithe map. The south and east sides are still wet whilst the north and west sides have been filled in and can be seen as depressions.

Moat (Crown Farm).
On (S1) south and east sides wet, north and west dry. West side wet on (S2).
E. Rose (NLA).

Only south and east arms now remain. These approximately 3.5m wide, 1.5m deep, masked by undergrowth. North and west arms seen as slight depression in orchard.

The sections of earthwork medieval moat (see above) are visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2021 (S3). As the survey was flown relatively recently, it is likely that the features still survive as earthworks.
