Full Description
Pilot Street. Medieval houses, awaiting demolition in 1974.
S. Dunmore (NAU), April 1974.
These houses have not been demolished but are being restored.
Nos 30-32 appear 16th century half-timbered with jetties and brick nogging.
E. Rose (NAU), 6 July 1977.
See (S2) in file by E.M. James with drawings of items visible when the plaster on the ground floor of No. 30 was stripped - timber framing below jetty, blocked doors and windows in rear wing of both late medieval and 17th century type, much igneous stone utilised, and suggestion that No. 28 is structurally part of No. 30.
E. Rose (NAU), 20 October 1986.
Revised 1993 listing:
Nos 30-32 are a rare parallel hall house of the early 15th century, remodelled in the late 15th century. Grade II*.
See (S1) for details.
E. Rose (NLA), 11 March 1999.
This building was formerly the Grampus public house between 1836 and 1921, the name perhaps being inspired by the capture of a 19-foot long Grampus whale in the River Ouse in 1830.
See (S3) for further information.
A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 5 June 2019.
