NHER 11304 (Find Spot record) - Mesolithic and Neolithic worked flints and ?Roman and Early Saxon metal objects

Pre 1975. Fieldwalking.
Fieldwalking by H. le Strange (le Strange Field RN 100/old O.S field 100).
It appears that le Strange recovered a range of artefacts in this field, including an assemblage of Mesolithic worked flints. These flints are held le Strange finds listed in (S1) as being held by the Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Although they are recorded as unprovenanced in (S1) it is noted in R. Jacobi's archive (S2) that they were found at "R.N. 100" - which is clearly a reference to this field. The assemblage is listed in (S1) as comprising:
1 flaked axehead (non-tranchet). Noted in (S2) as the butt of a plano-convex section axe.
2 cores.
1 blade/flake. Listed as a flake in (S2).
4 scrapers.
1 microlith. Listed as a narrow scalene microlith in (S2). This piece is illustrated in (S3).
It is noted in (S2) that the CUMAA collection also includes a Neolithic laurel leaf.

According to an old NCM record map (S4) le Strange also identified a Roman pottery scatter in this field. The sherds that he recovered included two sherds of late colour coated.

In 1999 a number of le Strange's finds were accessioned by the Norwich Castle Museum, including a number from this site (NWHCM : 1999.326.5.4). This assemblage is listed in the museum's records as including Neolithic worked flints and Roman pottery sherds.

Two objects found together:
1 Early Saxon cruciform small long brooch, 4.3cm long x 2.4cm wide, bronze. See copy of sketch in file.
1 iron socketed spearhead, 18cm length, maximum width 3.5cm, socket diameter 1cm. Smaller than Saxon and medieval examples in KLM, in size nearer Roman types.
