Summary

During 1975 and 1985 a number of objects were discovered in this area by fieldwalking. Finds comprised undated metal working debris, a 13th century buckle and sherds of Roman, Late Saxon and medieval pottery.

Early 1985. Measured fieldwalking by member of the public [1] and students.

Numbered as follows:
Context 4. Extensive scatter of 'occasional slag' - east edge not located.
Context 5. 'Fairly dense' scatter slag about 10m in diameter.
Context 6. Undefined area of 'pottery' (not yet seen NAU).
Context 7. Patch of dark soil, no slag mentioned, 'pottery' found.
Context 8. Dense concentration iron slag, about 15m in diameter.

D-shaped buckle with engraved linear design on bow, formerly inlaid with dark enamel of which traces survived. 13th century.
