NHER 11407 (Find Spot record) - Undated human remains

Pre 1974.
Found in cardboard box under floor of building erected 1946, now demolished. Human skeleton, female, mid 20s suffering from ricketts? so 18th/19th century? C. P. B. Wells.
Information from Swaffham Police, NCM map sheet (S1) note.

[1] Swaffham Museum, however recounts a different version that says the skeleton was found in a sand or gravel pit at Lakenheath, Suffolk, and given to a local man. They are 'said' to be 20,000 years old.
Skull is in Swaffham Museum; remainder was hidden by owner in ground then discovered by the demolition workers. Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 18 April 1988.

The man who stated he was the original finder, but was reluctant to give his name, was interviewed by E. Rose (NAU). He confirms the above paragraph except that the skeleton was found during the construction of Lakenheath Airfield by [2], a contractor. The skeleton was lying in a thin layer of peat which filled the skull. A badger skull was beside it which the informant retains.
