Summary

In 1961 a beautiful gilt-bronze figurine of the Virgin Mary was found during garden clearance at the Hall's gardens. It would have originally been set in an altar cross along with the figures of Jesus Christ and St John, but this cross could also be removed and mounted on a staff for processions. This is a particularly fine example of such a rare artefact.
