Full Description
Frame of 17th century building. See (S1) and (S2) made in June 1975. Owner, Oaks Farm. Building possibly once known as Wattlefield Hall. Stands on 61m (200 foot) contour parallel with old road. 14m by 5m (45 foot x 15 foot). Rafters and frame remained when surveyed; former cut away for dormers. Half-brick wall and brick chimney stand 15cm (6 inches) away from the frame at south end. Very unusual cruck feature near north end - to support chimney?
1982.
Examination of above photographs in NCM shows a hall house with inserted upper floor and raised roof. Inverted arched braces at corners. The building seemed to be late 17th century with upper floor later. E.B. Green (NCM) says the historic buildings advisor for Suffolk in 1974 said the building was 18th century with 19th century inserted upper floor. The 'cruck feature' is probably a frame for a wattle and daub chimney. The brick wall and chimney are 19th century.
E. Rose (NCM), 14 May 1982.
