Summary

These undated earthworks and cropmarks form a rectangle with the field boundary. Inside this are four smaller rectangles - these may be house platforms. There are also linear features in the rest of the field that are probably old boundaries. These appear to be buildings on the street front with rear plots represented by boundaries.

Map

Cropmark of earthworks, one with right angled bend forming a rectangle with the field boundary and the road, and inside this four smaller rectangles conjoined. House site? Area extended to include other linear earthworks in field - old boundaries.

May and June 2013
Further examination of aerial photographs indicates these earthworks and cropmarks are probably the remains of North Barsham deserted medieval village (see NHER 11543). Building platforms appear to survive on the street frontage with parallel boundaries running northwards marking out the rear plots. A visit to the site in June confirmed earthworks were surviving and in good condition under grass in a back garden setting. The earthworks are located on an unusually steep hill, leading away from the street front. Owner ws unaware of the significance of the earthworks.
