Summary

This 17th century house has early 20th century additions. It is built of brick and has a pantile roof. Inside the roof is 17th century in date, whilst most of the rest of the interior is 17th century style but dates to 1929. It was once the George Inn and the medieval stonework in a boundary wall probably came from the nearby church.

Map

October 1976. Visit.
About 1700. Two shaped gables crowned with chimneys.
(S1) notes oval windows under one gable, but these not seen at time of visit. North extension also with shaped gable: now a garage but probably original. Façade has Georgian doorcase and windows, some blocked.
Excellent condition.
E. Rose (NAU), 6 October 1976.

Revised listed building description (S2) dates house as 17th century but extended to north in 1929 in matching style with shaped gable of that date; stack marks the junction of the two builds. Brick. Unglazed black pantile roof. The oval windows are mentioned but in a way difficult to judge whether they are meant to be 17th century or of 1929. Rear elevation has 18th century door, plus wing and stair turret of 1929. Interior retains 17th century butt purlin roof and attic studwork partitions, but most of the interior is of 1929 in 17th century style.
E. Rose (NAU), 16 November 1998.

(S3) in file states building was at one time the George Inn.

March 2005. Visit.
In boundary wall along the road are a number of pieces of reused stonework, no doubt from the church opposite.
E. Rose (NLA), 14 March 2005.
