Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting prior to and during the construction of the Norwich Southern Bypass and between 2018 and 2021 recovered prehistoric work flints, including Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age scrapers; a post-medieval gunflint; potentially prehistoric burnt flints 'pot boilers'; Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; medieval roof tile; Roman and medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and a range of other, undated and Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include undated copper alloy ring; a Middle Bronze Age palstave fragment; Roman brooches and a lead possible finger ring; a potentially Roman ferrule; an Early Saxon brooch fragment; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval spur rowel, copper alloy seal matrix and copper alloy vessel fragment; a medieval/post-medieval box mount, copper alloy vessel fragment and lead weights and post-medieval furniture fittings, dividers, a harness mount, copper alloy weight and lead cloth seals. It is noted that a large spoil heap was spread across this field following the construction of the Norwich Southern Bypass, so it is possible that some of these objects were from elsewhere along the route of the scheme.
