Summary

A pit filled with brown sand, black charcoal and ash was recorded in the side of a pipeline trench. Neolithic worked flints and part of the rim of a Neolithic pot were found.

1976. Field Observation.
In west edge of pipeline trench, on west side of north to south road opposite farm track to east.
Pit 50cm deep filled with brown sand and black charcoal/ash, cut into natural of orange-yellow sand.
Worked flints and rim sherd found. See drawing (S1).
Flotation sample taken.

This material was originally called Iron Age, but reidentified as Neolithic by A. Gregory (NAU).

The finds from this site are listed in (S3) as an Early Neolithic plain bowl sherd, a keeled core and 4 flint flakes. The Neolithic sherd is amongst those noted in (S4).
