Summary

A 17th-century house, much altered in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, from which many fine fittings survive, including stairs, panelling and ceilings. A shop front was added in the late 19th century.

Altered again to provide shop in late 19th century.

1983. Listed Grade II.
Added to list of listed buildings 1983 Grade II (S3), but with no dating and virtually no description.

The revised 1993 listing ascribes house to 16th century with former timber framed west wall that collapsed 1988. 18th century fittings still there but states listed for group value only.

Excerpt from current Listing Description:
"Shop with flat over. 16th-century origins, but much altered. Timber-frame exists as fragments. 19th-century brick skin. West timber-framed wall collapsed 1988 and replaced with breeze blocks. Slate roof. Two storeys and dormer attic. 20th-century double shopfront with timber passage door to left. Two late 19th-century sashes to first floor. Gabled roof with one gabled dormer. Single-storey wing to rear carrying a stack, gabled to main roof.
Interior: Main ground-floor front room with a mid-18th-century pine corner cupboard: round-arched and with dentil cornice. Rear room panelled. Staircase landing has balustrade of turned balusters and ovolo-moulded handrail. Enough of roof remains to show that it was of clasped purlin construction. Included for group value."
