Full Description
Before June 1971. Casual discovery, rear of 109-11 High Street.
Two groups of material recovered from sewer working. Figure references below are from (S1).
Context 1. Unassociated finds; sherds of Software jug, Pingsdorf-type jar (type of Fig. 102 No. 37), Lyveden-type jug, and southwest French monochrome jug.
Context 2. From a brick culvert, a large group containing nine pipe-bowls and eleven stems of 1670-1710. The latest dateable sherd was of 1714 or later (Fig 128-9, No. 390) but most of the material seems to be 17th century Red wares, including West Norfolk bichrome and black glaze (Figs 106-8, 110-11, 113-15 Nos. 45, 54, 75-78, 97, 109, 118, 154, 179, 192, 220, 236). West Norfolk and pseudo-Dutch slipware (Figs. 117-8, Nos. 200, 212). Staffordshire slipware (Fig. 120, Nos. 254, 257, 264). Dutch earthenware (Fig. 123, Nos. 284, 285). Frechen and Westerwald stoneware (Fig. 128-9, Nos. 382, 389, 390).
Chinese porcelain (Fig. 129, No. 409).
