Full Description
February 1977. Visit.
Houses southwest of church ('Tudor Cottage', 'Jacobean Cottage' etc.).
Late 17th century terrace, two storeys, brick; stepped gable west. Raised brick surrounds and aprons to upper windows, oval brick patches (replaced by niche in one case) and at east end hoodmoulds on lower windows. East gable rebuilt in modern times and extension added to west. Good condition.
E. Rose (NAU), 23 February 1977.
These are said to be weaver's cottages and in rebuilding a partition wall reused medieval masonry was found, which has been returned to the priory.
Information from [1].
E. Rose (NAU), 24 January 1983.
[2] states buildings were used for weaving until the 1920s and that the upper floor was one unbroken room.
E. Rose (NLA), 30 September 1991.
March 2000.
Detailed investigation of exterior, and interior of No 2 alone suggests No 2 added to end of terrace slightly afterwards, but date of whole is 17th century. Much altered then restored. No 2 had one open room at first floor but interior of remainder of terrace not seen.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 14 March 2000.
(S2) states that during renovations to Tudor Cottage an ovolo moulded mullion was found in the attic. However there is nothing to indicate that it is not a recently imported curio.
E. Rose (NLA), 22 February 2005.
September 2008.
