Gold signet ring with arms of Appleyard family found in the 19th century. See (S1). This is probably the same as the ring mentioned in (S2) as having been found by Goddard Johnson. It was a gold signet ring bearing an owl, which Johnson calls 'the arms of some old family'. Much of (S1)'s information comes from (S3).
