Full Description
Mound, known as Gallows Hill, formerly stood 'in Shilling's Field between Burnham Thorpe and North Creake, halfway along the road.' The field is named after John Shilling, a highwayman, who was gibbetted there in 1786.
Information from (S1).
31 August 1978.
[1] says that the site of the mound is preserved by local tradition at the above grid reference, by the crossroads, though the name Shilling's Field is not now known. The reference then is a little vague - the site is halfway along a road, and more or less between Burnham Thorpe and North Creake.
