Summary

This 18th century brick and flint barn has been converted to residential use. It has a rounded flint projection similar in appearace to a rood turret and, prior to its conversion, had large large brick buttress. These features are the reason that in 1896 the barn was compared to a medieval church. A cottage was also noted in 1896 and this does not survive.

Map

1896. 'On High Road near Lighthouse Farm'.
Cottage and barns built of flint with buttresses resemble remains of a church.
Information from (S1).

October 1978. Visit.
By process of elimination this must be the building meant, though it is only a barn and shed, any cottage having gone.
It is mainly an 18th century brick and flint barn, but the resemblance to a church is caused by a large brick buttress and a flint rounded projection like a rood turret against the road. The latter is apparently a damaged flint buttress of the 17th century, the same date as the wall behind it, later incorporated into the barn. Probably originally a barn itself - certainly not a church.
E. Rose (NAU), 19 October 1978.

July 1998. The building has been converted to residential use.
The brick buttresses have been removed and the rounded projection restored to a very passable imitation of a rood turret!
E. Rose (NAU), 17 July 1998.
