Summary

An early 17th century brick house with substantial 19th century alterations. The house has a central 2 storey porch tower with crowstepped gables.

(S2), Grade II, gives as: early 17th century and later, brick. Plain and pantiles. Stepped gables. 3 bays, 2 storeys and attic; early 19th century 2 storey central porch. Additions: 1 bay, 2 storey and attic to right; 1 half bay, 1 storey and attic to left. Main block has 3rd bay of south facade and right return in English bond brick on flint base. First bay refaced 18th century Flemish bond. 19th century porch has Gothick lights and stepped gable. Two cross stacks flank narrow central bay, each with 3 19th century shafts. Various sash windows, some in older openings. Interior of first bay of main range has some stopped ground floor beams, low ceilings and no attic. Stair turret added to rear of central bay; cast iron newel, mahognany rail, twisted pine balusters. Differing attic stair. Roof of third bay of purlins and collars. Single storey left extension has large enclosed stack and stopped beam.

Basically a large brick 17th century house but little is visible of that phase.
Low service wings seem to be late 17th/early 18th century. Little remains visible of a late 18th century remodelling; the present visible structure is a Victorian 'Tudor' mansion.
