Full Description
Cottage on site of Morley Hall has an old carved fragment of wood built in dated 1579, and two stone heads perhaps from the church.
Information from (S1) in (S2). But elsewhere he says the moat NHER 2981 is the site of the Morley's mansion.
29 November 1978.
Nothing like this seen in Hingham. Local people say there were several old cottages with stone heads, but these have been demolished and the heads removed.
These may not have been old; for example one pointed out to me still in situ at Fairlands Garage is 19th century.
There are terracotta plaques with rampant lions (the Morley crest) in cottage east of church south of gateway, and several in outbuilding opposite the old grammar school, but these are of uncertain date.
The only hall site known locally is NHER 2981.
E. Rose (NAU).
