Map

May 1977. Visit.
Lime kiln.
Arched entrance in north face of old overgrown chalk pit. Bell of kiln has collapsed in front, but complete on three sides, with tap holes: it is square.

Rear and side passages complete, brick vault on flint, with tuliere holes. Occupant of Limekiln Cottage opposite (aged 80 to 90) says his father and grandfather worked in the pit, and that there was a second kiln.
E. Rose (NAU), 19 May 1977.

As of 1992, the kiln is half it's original size due to frost and rabbit damage. The site is overgrown, however this keeps the horses out.
