Map

On Glebe House playing field.
A ring ditch shown on RAF/Ordnance Survey aerial photography's 3060 taken 7 June 1946 (at TF 6792 4131).
Information from A. Lawson (NAU).
In 1963 on this approx site a Neolithic stone rubber was found (within area of GIS polygon).
E. Rose (NAU).

No sign of ring ditch in playing field.
A.J. Lawson (NAU), 26 March 1976.

Ring ditch located at grid reference by D. Edwards (NLA) from RAF photograph - photocopy in file.
Yellow circle also retained on NHER map for findspot of rubber.
E. Rose (NLA), 23 July 1997.

A slight doubt must be entertained due to the fact that this is the playing field of Glebe House school, which once trained boys for the Navy; could the mark be the site of some sort of mast etc?
E. Rose (NLA), 19 March 1999.

Cross reference with NHER 34301.

June 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmark of a ring ditch, 25m in diameter visible on 1946 RAF photos (S1). The ring appears to be showing as positive cropmark, although the area seems to be a playing field and therefore it should be grass. The mark is visible on June 1946 photos and it is possible that there was a sufficient moisture deficit to produce cropmarks in grass, although the rest of the grass does not appear especially parched. The playing field is covered with many irregular, curvilinear features, which do not appear anthropogenic and therefore were not mapped. The outline of the ‘ring ditch’ itself also appears quite irregular, so it seems most likely that it is a fungal ring and was therefore not mapped.
S. Massey (NMP), 28 June 2002.
