NHER 12581 (Monument record) - Possible Roman road

Summary

A thick layer of flint was observed in the side of a dyke at this spot. It is reported to extend under the lawn and may be a destroyed Roman road. It lines up with the Roman road reported in NHER 9816.

Burnt House Farm Bungalow.
Layer of flint observed in side of dyke on west edge of lawn. 5 to 10cm thick, at least 3m wide but plants obscured dimensions. Owner reports that it extends under all of the front lawn and prevented rotivating. It lines up with Roman road located by [1] (NHER 9816) and with road leaving Roman town at northeast corner, but no evidence on air photographs. As field is called Burnt House Field possibly a demolition layer of unknown date.
