Summary

This timber-framed house and shop probably dates from the 16th century. It has a Mansard roof. It was home to the Post Office and Southgate's general stores for a large part of the 20th century.

Suggestion by [1] that the houses incorporate walls of the Fort has not been substantiated as far as is known.

Includes only No. 7, described as house and shop, probably 16th century. Timber-framed, rendered infill. Slate roof. Two storeys and attic. Twentieth century shopfront to both St Ann's Fort and St Ann's Street. Mansard roof.
