Summary

This small flint and brick farm building stands close to 19th century sheds and the traces of a demolished house. A blocked window in the apex of the gable bears the date 1672 or 1671 but this is presumably a reset stone as the majority of the building is 18th/19th century in date. 24 September 1987. Site visit by E. Rose (NAU).

Building in village centre at Pond Farm.
Small farm building against road aligned north-west to south-east on waste ground north of 19th century sheds and traces of demolished house? About 3-4m long. West wall of flint and random brick with 19th century gable steps added. In apex of flint gable a blocked window (as is clear from interior) bearing eroded terracotta letters I H 1672 or 1671 - presumably reset.
In south wall flint walling at west end at base with sloping join to remainder which is 18th century chequered brickwork with two blocked windows.
North wall has flint and brick north-west quoins, and similar high return plinth to gable; remainder identical to south wall.
East wall 19th century brick with stepped gable and arched entrance.
Roof of pantiles on tiebeams with struts; late.
Appears to be west end of 17th century flint and brick building of unknown purpose - date 1671 or 1672 probably belongs to building though reset.
Side walls rebuilt 18th century (was it timber framed?).
Building shortened, new east wall and stepped gables and probably roof 19th century.
Threatened with demolition 1987.
Added to listing November 1987.
Photographs (S1) in file.
