NHER 12617 (Find Spot record) - Roman pottery and roof tile

1977. Stray Find.
On ploughed surface, northeast of ford.
Roman coarse sherds, amphorae, three sherds Samian, mortarium rim sherd, and tegula fragments.

April 1980. Stray Find.
Found on surface of ploughed field. Roman site reported as above.

January 2017. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of excavation of open cut pipe trench (Trench 2).
The lowest deposit exposed was a dark peat layer that produced a single fragment of animal bone (not retained). At the northern end of the trench this deposit was sealed by a fairly thick layer of compressed chalk that had presumably been lain down at some point to stabilise the ground overlying the wet peat. It may represent part of a low bank, some form of platform or a trackway. This layer was overlain by a layer of dark grey alluvial silt that was in turn sealed by a thick subsoil deposit.
No finds were recovered.
